while you travel
photography
It’s guaranteed that you will visit some truly astounding, aweinspiring
places and capturing these lasting impressions is a
rewarding part of the journey. In fact, it is usually outstanding
photographs that inspire us all to travel! It is important to
realise that photography can be intrusive on people’s private
and work life and we hope that you would always respect
the privacy and dignity of your hosts and companions.
Please always ask permission before photographing
people. Body language can be used to communicate your
intentions and it is important to always respect the wishes
of your subjects.
Some people do not like to be photographed, which may
include religious and cultural reasons. Despite their beauty,
they may feel self-conscious in the company of westerners
or when they are dressed in their work or casual clothes.
Your leader will inform you when you come across sacred
sites and other monuments that should not be
photographed. Additionally, it is normal that signs will be
visible to alert you when photography is prohibited.
We strongly discourage any form of payment for
photographing people as this can lead to a begging
mentality and expectations among locals.
If you promise to send a picture to the person in the
photo please follow through with your intention. Our
leaders will make every effort to ensure that the correct
people receive the photo the next time they visit the area
if postal services are not available
Become familiar with your camera before departure. A
polarising filter and good telephoto lens are very useful
items, and please ensure you bring plenty of film or digital
capacity to store your images. In remote regions of the
world it may be difficult to find quality film.
hygiene
Hygiene is very important on all our trips and we take all
possible measures to ensure the good health of our group
members. We believe that prevention is better than cure and
we provide opportunities to wash your hands regularly.
Clean water is often stated as one of the world’s most
precious resources. You soon learn to appreciate clean water
when out on the trails. We take special care not to pollute
water ways whilst trekking and hope that you will help us in
our cause.
Most of the sicknesses you’ve probably read about are
avoidable, provided you act with care and caution and make
the right assumptions regarding the quality of commercial
food. On our treks and expeditions, the standard of food,
utensils and water is excellent. We strongly recommend that
you adhere to the menu provided, as food from tea houses
and cafes along the way is fraught with risk, in addition to
wood being used from disappearing forests.
World Expeditions trekking groups will use our own
equipment and chefs, even on the odd occasion where a
lodge is used, so we can be assured of the highest quality
of hygiene and we can minimise our environmental impact.
