World Expedition - booklet - Index

conclusion
travel does not have to cost us our earth
The key to minimising impact, for both World Expeditions as a
company and the individual traveller is to think before acting.
Whether you’re a guide planning a new World Expeditions tour or
an individual traveller on a trek in a remote area, one should always
ask oneself:
“WHAT WILL BE THE IMPACT OF MY ACTION?”
then ask yourself ...
“IS THAT IMPACT ACCEPTABLE?”
Impact is a part of life, the trick is to minimise the unsustainable and
maximise the sustainable. If we all do what we can when we can,
then we are along the way towards achieving a sustainable future.

After reviewing the first edition of this guidebook, the
Wilderness Society made the following comments:
“As an organisation, The Wilderness Society is
dedicated to the protection, promotion and preservation
of wilderness areas. Achieving this goal has never been
easy and is increasingly becoming harder. As we
humans fight for the right to exploit an ever decreasing
pool of natural resources, governments relax legislative
protection as they seek corporate and popular support.
Therefore, it is extremely encouraging when part of the
business community displays leadership and takes
positive steps to respect our fragile environmental and
cultural landscapes. World Expeditions (WE) has
displayed this leadership and committed themselves to
acting beyond mere legislative compliance. This policy
commits WE to acting in a socially and environmentally
responsible manner both internally and externally. They
are striving to minimise the impacts of their business,
assist local communities in their efforts to care for their
environment and educate their clients. This ethical
policy puts into writing a philosophy that WE has been
operating by for years. We commend WE for its ongoing
attempts to find the true balance between the
enjoyment and preservation of our physical and social
environs.”
